Here’s Nancy Sinatra, Elvis’s co-star in the sublimely campy 1968 film Speedway.  Elvis plays a racecar driver who also owns a trailer park and who becomes the benefactor of a poor family he finds squatting on his property.  He’s famous, though every event he races in conveniently takes place in his hometown of Charlotte.  Much of the action takes place in this wonderful, wonderful club, where a roaming spotlight might cause any person to spontaneously break out into a song and dance routine.

I would kill for Elvis’s orange racing jacket, incidentally.

Speedway is my second-favorite Elvis film, after the unspeakably crazy The Trouble With Girls, a film which featuring fireworks, card sharks, feminist union organizers, Okies, murder, new wave-inspired cinematography for thirty seconds, Vincent Price, a song about the zodiac, and a channel swimmer who hilariously keeps saying the words “goose fat.”
